WHO WAS DICK WHALEN?
For 25 years, Dick was the driving force behind the growth and development of soccer in Hampton Roads.
One of his greatest legacies was helping establish, build, and enhance the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (HRSC). NASSC was created to be a fundraiser for HRSC and has raised over $5 million to date. His fundraising efforts paved the way for tens of thousands of local children and families to enjoy and make memories at HRSC.
His commitment to excellence was unparalleled. NASSC and the U.S. Open were some of Dick’s most valued developments.
We appreciate Dick for caring about the soccer community so passionately. Simply stated, there will never be another Dick Whalen. We miss you. We love you. We will make you proud.
Our future success will always be in your honor and because of the foundation you built.Fair winds and following seas. RIP Captain Whalen!
